Free Contractor Software to Run a Small Trade Business

Small contractors often run the business across a notes app, a spreadsheet, a separate invoice app and a card reader. BCTM puts those in one place — customers, estimates, jobs, crew time, invoices and payments — and charges $0 per month for it.

Frequently asked questions

What free software can a small contractor use to run the business?

BCTM is one option: customers, estimates, jobs, crew time, invoices and payments in one app with a $0/month software subscription.

Other tools offer free invoicing or free tiers with limits; the comparison of free contractor invoicing apps lays out what each one publishes, with sources.

Do I need a computer, or can I run it from my phone?

A phone is enough. BCTM runs in the browser and installs to the home screen; it also works on a tablet or desktop.

Does it make sense for a one-person business?

Yes. Nothing requires a team, and a solo operator pays the same $0 per month. Workers can be added later without changing the price.

Can it replace my separate invoice app and card reader?

For most small contractors, yes: invoices, online payments and in-person card readers are all in BCTM. If you rely on accounting sync, note that BCTM does not sync with QuickBooks or Xero today.
